This opportunity is for a highly motivated, personable, and very organized Environmental Professional at our Calgary South office location. Reporting to the Director of Environment, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations across the region by working with multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines, while maintaining a high quality of work.  As the Environmental Operations Manager, you play a crucial role in supporting our environmental team by working closely with leadership and project teams in establishing, overseeing, and coordinating projects pertaining to pipeline, commercial and municipal sectors.  Our ideal candidate should have experience with environmental scopes within the energy industry, business development, client interactions and project delivery to aid the team in managing and growing our lines of business.

  • Monitor the overall performance of projects and personnel being undertaken by the division, ensuring effective and proactive management of project scope, quality, and effective client service
  • Coordinate with Business Development team in the region to build, manage, and maintain client relationships
  • Plan resources and manage overall workload and staffing levels within the department to maintain utilization at desired levels
  • Manage projects and support regulatory and environmental team as required with deliverables, reporting requirements, and database management
  • Interpret regulatory requirements and review written reports and applications for large capital projects to support client needs
  • Work directly with clients to provide strategic environmental advice and project management throughout all stages of a project’s lifecycle including approval, construction, and operational deadline management
  • Support inter-office collaboration and resource/work sharing to balance workloads and meet project delivery objectives across the various lines of business
  • Assist with business improvement and growth initiatives, providing effective leadership and change management to engage staff
  • Identify opportunities in the project pipeline and gather data/insights to support preparation of effective proposals. Engage staff in Business Development initiatives as appropriate
  • Assist with bidding process for various major project proposals; assist in reviewing request for proposal documents, advise on strategy, review client terms and conditions in line with business expectations, create project risk profiles, and obtain internal approvals for proposal submissions
  • Support post tender prime contract/subcontract negotiations and approvals for contract signage
  • Advise project teams and corporate stakeholders with clarification of contract and scope requirements
  • Help manage the financial health of the project including; accurate reporting of schedule and cost performance, control of unplanned variances, and profit metrics
  • Coordinate project-close out processes including subconsultant vendor evaluations, progressive learning documentation, and obtaining necessary waivers and release from clients. Team communication of the division’s operational expectations and execution of a strategic vision


Utilize Your Education and Expertise

  • Hold a diploma or degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, Biology, Ecology, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in environmental work and project planning
  • Strong knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and policies
  • Understanding of Western Canada oil and gas, along with EPEA, AER, AEPA, Water Act, Public Lands Act, etc. 
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to support diverse client groups
  • Proficient at analyzing environmental data with relevant software tools and integrating data from environmental documents into written reports and other project deliverables
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders and present complex information in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Good sense of humour and strong admiration of mullet culture is an asset
